Born
in Brooklyn, NY, Chief O'Malley, along with his family
of 13 brothers and sisters, moved to Plandome at the age
of 12. In 1976, while attending high school, Bryan joined
the Plandome Fire Department and remained a member for
three years.
In February of 1980, Bryan joined Manhasset-Lakeville
Fire Department Company #2. In 1986, he was elected as
a Company Line Officer and moved up the ranks from 2nd
Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant and finally served as Captain
from 1990-1992.
Bryan is a charter member of the 8th Battalion Dive Team,
a charter and honorary member of the M-LFD Ambulance Unit,
a Legislative Chairman for the Department, past-Chairman
of the Department's Blood Bank and the Company New Truck
Committee.
Chief O'Malley has been a Certified New York State Emergency
Medical Technician since 1976, and is an Emergency Medical
Specialist for the New York City Fire Department's Emergency
Medical Services since 1981. He was assigned to Coney
Island, Brooklyn for 18 1/2 years. In the spring of 2007, Bryan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the FDNY Bureau of EMS.
Two of Chief O'Malley's brothers have been volunteer
firefighters within the 8th Battalion. He lives with his
wife Kathy and son Bryan. Bryan is proud that his brother
Neil is a member of the Garden City Fire Department since
August of 1999. Most recently, Bryan's son, Bryan Jr.,
became a member of the Albertson Fire Department.
Bryan was elected 4th Deputy Chief in 1999, and was elected
Chief of Department on August 4th, 2006.
