On Friday, February 13, 2015 at 5:02PM, Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Companies 1, 2, 3 and the Ambulance Unit were dispatched to the intersection of Bourndale Road North and Chester Drive for a reported house fire in that vicinity. Chief of Department Farrone (8705), Deputy Chief Kiess (8701) and Ambulance 8767 were the first units to respond and were advised of a direct call from a resident stating that they see a house on fire in that area. Seconds later, the dispatcher advised the units that multiple calls were being received through Firecom all reporting a house fire at 32 Brookwald Drive. With this information, Chief Farrone requested the Port Washington Fire Department be requested for a F.A.S.T. (Firefighter Assist & Search Team).

Ambulance 8767 was the first unit to arrive on scene and reported “smoke showing” and confirmed that all occupants were out of the house. Deputy Chief Kiess (8701) arrived on the scene two minutes later and transmitted a “Signal 10” for a working fire in a 2 ½-story private dwelling. Deputy Chief Kiess reported that he had smoke pushing from all sides of the structure and visible fire in the rear.

On Monday, February 2, 2015 at 10:13am, Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Companies 3, 4, 5 and the Ambulance Unit were dispatched to a reported apartment fire on Welwyn Road in Great Neck Plaza.  Chief of Department Michael Farrone (8705) was the first unit to respond and was advised of calls received through Firecom reporting a fire in an apartment on the second floor.  While en route, the dispatcher advised that NCPD units were on scene confirming a fire.  M-LFD Ex-Chief Brian Morris arrived on the scene first and reported “smoke showing” to Chief Farrone, who transmitted a “Signal 10” when he arrived.

Engine 8735 was the first piece of apparatus to arrive on the scene and stretched a 1” ¾ hose line to the fire apartment, which was located on the second floor of the three-story apartment building.  Engine 8740 arrived second-due and stretched a second 1” ¾ hose line off Engine 8735.  All searches were negative and the fire was contained to one bedroom in the apartment and there was no extension to the floor above.  All occupants were removed from the fire apartment prior to the M-LFD’s arrival and one occupant was transported to a local area hospital by Ambulance 8767 to be evaluated.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office was notified for an immediate investigation and all units were released from the scene within one hour and fifteen minutes.

On January 23rd, 2015 at 9:14am, Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Companies 3 and 4 were dispatched to 380 Northern Boulevard for reported smoke from the building.  Deputy Chief Candan (8704) was the first unit to respond and was advised by the dispatcher that additional calls were being received all reporting smoke from the building and that they were upgrading the alarm assignment to a structure fire.  Two minutes later, Deputy Chief Candan arrived on the scene reporting smoke showing and transmitted a “Signal 10” for working building fire in a 100'x50' two-story abandoned catering hall.

Engine 8725 was the first piece of apparatus to arrive on the scene and stretched a 2 ½” hose line to the front of the building, which had been vacant since 2003.  While additional units were arriving on the scene, Deputy Chief Candan received several reports from civilians that a squatter resided within the building.  Units were able to safely perform searches throughout the building, which were all negative.  During the search units were able to locate the seat of the fire, which was on the second floor rear of the building.  Two 2 ½” hose lines were used to knock down the fire, which was brought under control within forty five minutes.

Due to the size of the building and unknown volume of fire, Deputy Chief Candan requested two additional tower ladders to the scene on the transmission of the working fire; one from the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company (TL8324) and one from the New Hyde Park Fire Department (TL175).  Both units were put to work immediately upon their arrival and the Great Neck Alert Fire Company responded to the scene as the F.A.S.T. (Firefighter Assist & Search Team) with Ladder 826.  Several neighboring departments provided stand-by coverage during the incident.

On Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014 at 5:07PM, Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Companies 4, 5 and the Ambulance Unit were dispatched to in front of 318 Lakeville Road in Lake Success for a reported motor vehicle accident with fire. Chief Farrone (8705) and Deputy Chiefs Kiess (8701) and Candan (8704) all responded to the call simultaneously and were advised of a reported motor vehicle accident with possible fire.

Due to the accident, traffic was at a stand-still on Lakeville Road, which made it very difficult for responding apparatus to arrive at the scene. Despite the heavy congestion, Deputy Chief Candan arrived on scene and confirmed a minor accident with a working vehicle fire. Squad 8759 was the first piece of apparatus to arrive, followed by Engine 8740. Both units stretched 1” ¾ hoselines and extinguished the fire. Ambulances 8767 and 8769 and Ladder 8743 were also on the scene.

Lakeville Road was shutdown in both directions for about thirty minutes by the Lake Success Police Department while firefighters extinguished the fully-involved vehicle. There were no reported injuries from the passengers of either vehicle involved in the accident and all units were released from the scene within thirty minutes by Chief of Department Farrone.
