Commissioner
Robert J. DeVito joined the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department
in October 1969. He became a member of Company #4 with
the intent of remaining a member for approximately four
years, but as anyone knows in the fire service, once it
becomes part of you, you do not want to let go.
Robert was elected to the position of Lieutenant in 1975
and Captain in 1979. He was elected to the position of
4th Deputy Chief in April of 1987. In 1995 he became Chief
of Department, where he proudly served for two years.
In December 2003, Robert ran for the position of Commissioner
of the Manhasset-Lakeville Water & Fire District.
He is now serving his second term in office and is the
third Commissioner to serve from Company #4.
He has been a resident of Great Neck for 50 years, and
a member of Company #4 for over 35 years. After graduating
from the Great Neck School system, he attended City College
of New York before doing a term in the United States Army.
He is married and has two married sons, along with two
grandchildren. |
