About Our Dispatching:

The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department is dispatched by the full-time dispatchers of the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company (830). Calls are received by the dispatcher, who then notify the appropiate M-LFD companies to respond.

Calling 9-1-1 is a good way to request emergency assistance, however, in order to provide the fastest response to the community, the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department asks that the residents of our community call (516) 466-4411 and speak to one of our own dispatchers. Phone stickers with our dispatch phone number are available at each of our five firehouses.

How M-LFD Members Receive Notification of Calls:

  • A citizen calls (516) 466-4411, reaches an M-LFD dispatcher and notifies them of a fire or medical emergency.

  • The dispatcher inputs the given data into the computer system and selects which fire company, companies and/or ambulances will respond to the call.

  • Members of the M-LFD will receive notification of incoming calls over their voice pagers (see right) , which the dispatcher activates with "tones".

  • M-LFD members respond in their personal vehicles to their respective firehouses and answer the call of the community.

Beep Beep Beep..."830 on the air for Manhasset-Lakeville with a fire call. Companies 4 & 5 to respond to..."

The Manhasset-Lakeville Dispatcher receives a phone call for a Fire and/or Medical emergency and writes down the information.

The information given to the Dispatcher is then input to the computer system, which brings up specific information about that location (hydrant locations, cross streets and building specifics).

The Dispatcher then "tones out" the correct Manhasset-Lakeville units to respond to the emergency phoned in via voice pagers.
