2009 Dodge Viper Vs. Tree MVA On Northern State Parkway

At 0801 hours on Saturday, November 29th, 2008, M-LFD Companies 3, 5 and the Ambulance Unit responded to the eastbound Northern State Parkway near New Hyde Park Road for a motor vehicle accident. Chief of Department O’Malley (8702), as well as Deputy Chiefs Uttaro (8705) and Dillon (8701) were the first on the scene and advised all incoming units that a vehicle had struck a tree and driven roughly 100 feet off of the parkway into the woods.

M-LFD, NCPD ESB and NCPD EMS crews all worked together to extricate the trapped driver of the vehicle, who was then transported by NCPD Ambulance 2360 to North Shore University Hospital. M-LFD Ambulance 8767 transported a second patient, and all units were released from the scene within forty five minutes.

Black Friday Motor Vehicle Accident On Lakeville Road

Shortly after 1600 hours on Friday, November 28th, 2008, M-LFD Company #5 and the Ambulance Unit were toned out to Lakeville Road and Campbell Street in Zone 5 for a reported motor vehicle accident. EMS Fly Car 8799, with Ambulance Unit 2nd Lt. Genser onboard, was the first unit to respond and was advised by GNVFC Operator 31 that a member of Company #5 was on the scene reporting an accident with multiple aided.

Once on scene, Rescue 8757 assisted M-LFD and NCPD EMS crews with the removal of three patients, and dealt with a spill in the roadway. The aided were transported by M-LFD Ambulance 8767, 8769, and NCPD Ambulance 2360 to North Shore University Hospital. All units were released from the scene within thirty minutes.

M-LFD Ambulance Unit & LSPD Deliver Baby Boy

On Monday, November 24th, 2008 at 0218 hours, the M-LFD Ambulance Unit was alerted to a residence in Lake Success for a woman who was in “active labor”. Ambulance Unit 2nd Lieutenant Lee Genser and EMT-CC Timothy Forsberg were the first members to respond to the call, and were advised by GNVFC Operator 4 that the Lake Success Police Department was on the scene reporting a woman in full labor. Upon their arrival, 2nd Lieutenant Genser and EMT-CC Forsberg found Officers from the LSPD assisting with the delivery of a baby boy.

Once the child had been delivered, 2nd Lieutenant Genser began rendering care to the infant, while EMT-CC Forsberg, joined by 1st Deputy Chief Uttaro (8705), Ambulance Unit Captain Lee, as well as EMT’s Hoffman and Suarez, began caring for the new mother. Once both the mother and baby were stabilized, they were transported by Ambulance 8767 to Winthrop Hospital.

M-LFD Battles Early Morning Fatal Fire In Munsey Park

At around 0550 hours on Wednesday, November 5th, 2008, M-LFD Companies 1, 2, 3 and the Ambulance Unit were toned out to a “reported house fire with people trapped” at 748 Hunt Lane in the Munsey Park section of Manhasset. Deputy Chief Uttaro (8705) was the first unit to respond to the alarm, and was advised by GNVFC Operator 15 that he was receiving multiple calls and that NCPD was on the scene confirming a working fire. With this information, Deputy Chief Uttaro transmitted a Signal 10.

M-LFD Handles Motor Vehicle Accident On Lakeville Road

On Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 at around 1315 hours, M-LFD Company #5, Heavy Rescue 8730 and the Ambulance Unit were toned out to in front of 400 Lakeville Road for a reported motor vehicle accident with a request for the Hurst tool. Chief of Department O’Malley (8702), Deputy Chiefs Dugger (8703) and Uttaro (8705), Ambulance 8767, Rescue 8757 and Heavy Rescue 8730, all responded within minutes of receiving the alarm.

Once on scene, Deputy Chief Dugger (8703) notified incoming units that there was no entrapment, and that the accident involved only one vehicle that had struck a tree with two aided. The aided were removed from the vehicle by M-LFD and NCPD EMS crews, and were transported by NCPD EMS to local hospitals. All units were released from the scene within twenty minutes.

M-LFD Co.’s 3, 5 & Ambulance Unit Handle Overturn with Fire

Just before 0230 hours on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008, M-LFD Companies 3, 5 and the Ambulance Unit were toned out to the eastbound Long Island Expressway, west of Shelter Rock Road. Chief of Department O’Malley (8702) and Deputy Chiefs Uttaro (8705), Dugger (8703) and Pitzer (8704) were all on the road within minutes of receiving the alarm, and were advised by GNVFC Operator 15 of a reported overturned automobile with fire.

Upon the arrival of the first Chief, units were informed that the vehicle was located in the woods alongside the expressway between New Hyde Park Road and Shelter Rock Road. The Chief then confirmed the accident was an overturn, and that the vehicle and the surrounding brush were on fire. He also told units that the occupant had self-extricated.

Rescue 8757 was the first piece of fire apparatus on the scene and used its booster line to begin knocking down the fire. Upon Engine 8735’s arrival, a 1” ¾ hose line was stretched to extinguish any remaining fire. The Ambulance Unit handled an RMA for the driver, while the crews of Heavy Rescue 8730 and Engine 8758 performed overhaul of brush and vehicle. All units were released from the scene within thirty minutes by C8702.

M-LFD Co.'s 1 & 2 Make Quick Work of Laundry Room Fire

At around 1245 hours on Friday, October 31st, 2008, M-LFD Companies 1 and 2 were toned out to 73 Hawthorne Place in Manhasset. Deputy Chief Dugger (8703) was the first unit to respond and was advised of a reported fire in the basement. Upon his arrival, Deputy Chief Dugger (8703) requested that a Signal 32 be transmitted for additional manpower to the scene for a heavy smoke condition in the basement. After a quick search, DC8703 transmitted a Signal 10 for fire in a basement laundry room of the residence.

The fire was contained to the laundry room with multiple water cans while the crew of Engine 8711 stretched a 1” ¾ hose line to finish off the fire and any extension. Once extinguished, the crew from Quint 8728 performed overhaul and ventilated the house. The fire was placed under control very quickly and all units were released from the scene within thirty minutes.

Other M-LFD units on the scene included Engine 8712, Tower Ladder 8724, Ambulance 8769, and Deputy Chiefs Uttaro (8705) and Dillon (8701). The Port Washington Fire Department responded as a F.A.S.T. with Rescue 8522.



M-LFD Co.'s 1 & 2 Quickly Knowdown Zone 1 House Fire

On Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 at 0954 hours, M-LFD Companies 1, 2 and 3 were toned out by Great Neck Vigilant Operator #5 to “Next to 8 Buckingham Place”. Deputy Chief Dillon (8701) was the first unit to respond, and was advised by Op #5 that a call was received through FireCom by a neighbor stating that the house next door was on fire.

M-LFD Co. #2 Knocks Down Fully-Involved Car Fire

At approximately 1915 hours on Monday, October 6th, 2008, M-LFD Company #2 was alerted for a reported car fire at the intersection of Knickbocker Road and Country Club Drive. While responding, numerous calls were being received by the dispatcher for a fully-involved car fire. Deputy Chief Dillon (8701) was the first unit on the scene and confirmed a fully-involved car fire.

Within minutes Engine 8725 arrived on the scene and stretched a 1” ¾ hose line and began knocking down the fire. Upon their arrival, the crew of Quint 8728 assisted with overhauling vehicle. All units were released from the scene within thirty minutes. During this alarm, M-LFD Companies 1 and 4 were alerted to a residential automatic alarm in Zone 1.

M-LFD Co. #5 Extinguishes Car Fire On Northern State Parkway

On the early morning of September 26th, 2008, M-LFD Company #5 was toned out to a car fire on the Westbound Northern State Parkway, East of Lakeville Road. Deputy Chiefs Pitzer (8704), Uttaro (8705), Dugger (8703) and Chief of Department O’Malley (8702) all responded immediately, and were advised by Albertson Chief Podlaski (801) that they were responding to a working car fire in the vicinity of New Hyde Park Road.

C8702 was the first unit to arrive on the scene, and advised Engine 8758 to stretch their 1” ¾ foam line because the car was fully-involved with fire. The fire was extinguished and overhauled, and all units were released from the scene within forty minutes.
