At 0900 hours
on Friday, December 29th, 2006, M-LFD Company #2, Heavy
Rescue 8730, Rescue 8757 and the Ambulance Unit were toned
out to Searingtown Road just south of Northern Boulevard.
Deputy Chiefs Pitzer (8704), Dugger (8703) and Dillon
(8701) were the first units to respond, and were advised
by dispatch that they were responding to an overturned
truck at that location, and that NCPD ESU units were also
responding.
Heavy Rescue 8730, Rescue 8757, A8769 and Engine 8725
were all on the road within minutes of receiving the alarm.
Upon DC8703’s arrival, he confirmed an overturned
box truck with no pin at the entrance to the Americana
Shopping Centre. The Ambulance Unit was placed on a Signal
13 due to there being no injuries, and at this time, DC8703
requested a Nassau County HazMat unit respond to the scene
for a large oil spill.
The overturned box truck was attempting to beat the traffic
light, sped up, made a sharp left turn into the shopping
centre and flipped the truck. DC8703, E8725 and HazMat
3 remained on the scene for an additional two hours until
the truck was up righted.
