At 0900 hours on Friday, December 29th, 2006, M-LFD Company #2, Heavy Rescue 8730, Rescue 8757 and the Ambulance Unit were toned out to Searingtown Road just south of Northern Boulevard. Deputy Chiefs Pitzer (8704), Dugger (8703) and Dillon (8701) were the first units to respond, and were advised by dispatch that they were responding to an overturned truck at that location, and that NCPD ESU units were also responding.

Heavy Rescue 8730, Rescue 8757, A8769 and Engine 8725 were all on the road within minutes of receiving the alarm. Upon DC8703’s arrival, he confirmed an overturned box truck with no pin at the entrance to the Americana Shopping Centre. The Ambulance Unit was placed on a Signal 13 due to there being no injuries, and at this time, DC8703 requested a Nassau County HazMat unit respond to the scene for a large oil spill.

The overturned box truck was attempting to beat the traffic light, sped up, made a sharp left turn into the shopping centre and flipped the truck. DC8703, E8725 and HazMat 3 remained on the scene for an additional two hours until the truck was up righted.
