At
around 1320 hours on Monday, January 22nd, 2007, M-LFD
Companies 3, 5 and the Ambulance Unit were toned out for
a reported overturned tractor trailer on the Eastbound
Long Island Expressway just west of New Hyde Park Road.
Heavy Rescue 8730 was the first unit on the road, followed
by Rescue 8757, Engine 8735, Ambulance 8769 and EMS Fly
Car 8799. Upon the arrival of first due units, a tractor
trailer was found overturned and on its side with one
occupant being removed by NCPD Highway and EMS units already
on the scene. At this time the Ambulance Unit was placed
on a Signal 13 due to the one patient being transported
immediately by the NCPD ambulance.
As a result of the overturn, there was a large fuel leak
that occurred and spread all over the expressway. Captain
Garrigan (Capt. 3), who was in Command of the scene, notified
dispatch for a road sander and Nassau County HazMat to
respond to the scene. Upon the arrival of the HazMat unit,
NY State roadway units and two wreckers, the overturned
tractor trailer was up righted and the scene was left
in the hands of the NY State roadway units. The eastbound
Long Island Expressway remained closed for several hours
following the incident due to roadway cleanup and debris
removal.
All Manhasset-Lakeville units were released from the
scene by Captain 3 at around 1530 hours. |
