On
Memorial Day, May 28th, 2007 at 1902 hours, M-LFD Company
#5, Heavy Rescue 8730 and the Ambulance Unit were toned
out for a reported motor vehicle accident with overturn
on Lake Road in Lake Success. Deputy Chiefs Uttaro (8705)
and Pitzer (8704) were the first units to respond, and
were notified by dispatch that they were responding to
a one car accident with overturn at the intersection of
Lake Road and Lakeview Road. Heavy Rescue 8730, Engine
8758 and Rescue 8757 all arrived within minutes along
with Ambulances 8769 and 8767.
Upon the arrival of M-LFD units the three occupants involved
were found to have self-extricated from the vehicle which
had taken down a utility pole and caused live electrical
wires to fall on to the street. In addition, a leak of
an unknown hazardous material was seeping out of the transformer
which was stationed at the top of the pole. DC8705 notified
Nassau County HazMat, as well as LIPA, for an immediate
response. The crews of E8758 and HR8730 applied speedy
dry to the roadway to prevent the hazardous material from
entering the drainage system.
The three occupants were transported to local hospitals
by both M-LFD ambulances, as well as NCPD Ambulance 2366.
During this incident, Manhasset Command was notified
of a reported vehicle fire on the westbound Long Island
Expressway. DC8705 redirected DC8704 and Engine 8758 from
the scene of the overturn and had Engine 8735 respond
from quarters. Units found a disabled vehicle at the side
of the roadway with no fire. All units were released from
both alarms at around 2015 hours. |
