On
Sunday, June 3rd, 2007 just before 1300 hours, M-LFD Company
#2, Heavy Rescue 8730, Rescue 8757 and the Ambulance Unit
were toned out for a reported motor vehicle accident with
entrapment in front of 300 Community Drive in Manhasset.
Chief of Department O'Malley (8702) and Deputy Chief Pitzer
(8704) were the first units to respond, and were notified
by dispatch that they were responding to a one car accident
with entrapment and that the NCPD was requesting a forthwith
response for the Hurst tool.
Heavy Rescue 8730, Rescue 8757, Engine 8725 and both
M-LFD buses all arrived within minutes. Upon the arrival
of M-LFD units one car was found wrapped around a tree
with one patient trapped in the vehicle. Hurst tools were
quickly put into operation on the passenger's side of
the vehicle and the door was removed rapidly. Due to the
positioning of the car and the entrapment of the patient
it was determined that HR8730 would need to use it's winch
to pull the vehicle away from the tree.
A medic was placed in the vehicle to stabilize the patient
while this maneuver took place. As soon as the car was
removed from the base of the tree units removed the door
on the driver's side of the vehicle and were able to free
the patient who was then quickly transported to North
Shore University Hospital by NCPD Ambulance 2356.
Manhasset Command released all units at around 1320 hours. |
