Working House Fire - Zone 4
M-LFD Companies 4, 3, 5, Rescue 8713 & Ambulance Unit |
On Saturday, March 13th, 2003 at 2000 hours, Companies 3 and 4 were toned out to a possible house fire at 85 Nassau Road near West Mill Drive in Great Neck. The first unit to arrive at the scene was Engine 8746, at which time the Signal 10 was transmitted by 1st Lieutenant 4. The re-tone brought in Company #5 as a F.A.S.T. Team, Company #1 with Rescue 8713 and the Ambulance Unit with A8769.
Units found heavy fire already venting out a 2nd floor bedroom venting out the exposure 1 side with extension to the attic and along the roof overhang towards exposure 2. Several hand lines were stretched off of E8746 and E8735, and numerous ground ladders were thrown up. A command post was set up with all five M-LFD Chiefs on the scene. After extinguishing the fire and overhauling, units were placed on a Signal 13 by 2230 hours.
On an interesting note, the fire was located at the New York City/Nassau County border, which brought in FDNY units, including TL-164 and E-313. However, both units left the scene almost immediately to repond to a fire located not too far away in Queens on Douglaston Parkway. |
