Working Building Fire - Zone 5
M-LFD Companies 5, 4, 3, Rescue 8713 & Ambulance Unit

On Friday, December 19th, 2003, at around 1530 hours, Companies 4 and 5 were toned out to 1999 Marcus Avenue in Lake Success. Chief of Department Morris (8701) was the first unit to respond to the scene and was advised by dispatch that he had several calls for a fire located in the lower level of the building complex, which was under construction.

Once C8701 arrived on the scene, he advised all units that he had heavy fire and smoke blowing out from the underground parking garage area. C8701 then transmitted a Signal 10 for a working building fire, which brought in Company #1 with Rescue 8713 for a F.A.S.T. Team, Company #3 with Heavy Rescue 8730 and Engine 8735, as well as the Ambulance Unit and the New Hyde Park FD with one Ladder and one Ambulance.

Engine 8755, backed up by the crew of Engine 8746, hit a hydrant and stretched a 1 3/4" hose line into the parking garage area. The fire was contained to one room with contents on the basement level of the building. The fire was knocked down quickly and extensive overhaul was performed.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal's office was notified for an immediate investigation. Additional command on the scene included Deputy Chiefs Stricknland (8704), O'Malley (8702), Uttaro (8705) and Dugger (8703). All units were released from the scene within two and half hours.
