Working House Fire - Zone 4
M-LFD Companies 4, 5, Heavy Rescue 8730, Rescue 8713 & Ambulance Unit

On Saturday, June 5th, 2004 at 1230 hours, M-LFD Companies 4 and 5 were toned out to a reported house fire in a single-family residence on Walden Place in Zone 4. The first units to respond were 1st Deputy Chief Strickland (8704) and Chief of Department Morris (8701).

Upon arrival, the Chiefs sized-up heavy fire in the attic with extension to the 2nd floor of a 2 1/2 story private dwelling. The alarm was then re-transmitted as a Signal 10 working fire, which brought in Heavy Rescue 8730, both M-LFD Ambulances, and Company #1 as a Rapid Intervention Team.

Several hose lines were stretched, charged and advanced to extinguish the fire in the attic and on the second floor. Tower Ladder 8744 was set up and put to the roof peak for ventilation. A command post was set up with all five M-LFD Chiefs assuming various positions.

After the fire had been extinguished and overhaul was completed, M-LFD units were released by 0315 hours. The Nassau County Fire Marshals office was also called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
