On Friday, September 3rd, 2004 at 1205 hours, M-LFD Companies 2 and 3 were toned out to a reported house fire on Grandview Avenue in Zone 3. The first unit to respond was Chief of Department Morris (8701), who was advised of multiple calls for a house fire and an Ex-Captain was on scene confirming a working fire. Chief Morris arrived at the scene moments later and transmitted the Signal 10 for a working house fire, adding Company #1, Company #5 for a F.A.S.T. Team and the Ambulance Unit.
Units found heavy fire in a separate apartment located on the 1-2 side of the 2nd story of a 2.5 floor colonial house. Several windows were already blown out and the fire had reached the attic area above the 2nd story.
The crew of Engine 8735 stretched multiple 1 ¾
hose lines and made a push up the stairs of the house
towards the 1-2 side. The crew of Quint 8728 threw ground
ladders and roof ladders and made roof cuts.
All four M-LFD Deputy Chiefs took various command positions. After lengthy overhaul, units cleared the scene by 0345 hours. One firefighter with burns to the legs was transported to the hospital by M-LFD Ambulance. |
