Working House Fire - Zone 4
M-LFD Companies 4, 3, 5, 2, 1 & Ambulance Unit

On Saturday, January 29th, 2004 at 1030 hours, M-LFD Companies 3 and 4 were toned out to a reported heater fire in a residence on Melbourne Road in Zone 4.

Multiple M-LFD units responded directly to the scene from a department training evolution being held at Company #3. The first M-LFD Chief on scene was Deputy Chief Dugger (8703), who transmitted the Signal 10 for smoke and fire across the entire 2nd floor of a 2-story private dwelling. The working fire dispatch added Company #5 for a F.A.S.T. Team, the Ambulance Unit and three additional M-LFD Deputy Chiefs.

While two 1 3/4" hose lines were stretched off of Engine 8746 and an interior push was made up to the second floor, Quint 8728 positioned itself to vent a large second story doghouse window. 1st Deputy Chief Strickland (8704) set up a command post and then requested M-LFD Company #1 to the scene for additional manpower. After an initial interior attack, personnel were withdrawn from the residence and Tower Ladder 8744, being supplied by Engine 8740, was set up for an exterior attack.

Neighboring departments, including the GNVFC and PWFD, provided coverage at M-LFD stations. The Nassau County Fire Marshal and NCPD Arson Squad responded to the scene to investigate, and M-LFD units cleared the scene by 1400 hours.
