Working House Fire - Zone 4
M-LFD Companies 4, 5, 3, 2, 1 & Ambulance Unit

On Sunday, September 11th, 2005 at 1045 hours, M-LFD Companies 3 and 4 were toned out to a residence in Lake Success. The first chief to respond was Deputy Chief Dugger (8703), who was advised by 830 that Lake Success Police were on scene reporting a working house fire.

Upon arrival, units found a private dwelling with heavy smoke and fire in a round cupola roof with extension into an attic that ran the entire width of the house. Multiple hand lines were stretched off Engine 8735 and were advanced into the attic and to the second floor below the cupola.

Both Ladder 8743 and Tower Ladder 8744 were extended to the roof where multiple vent holes were made with saws. Multiple 24' and 35' ground ladders were also thrown up on the exposures. A command post was set up by Chief of Department Strickland (8704) and Deputy Chiefs O'Malley (8702), Uttaro (8705) and Dugger (8703).

Due to all M-LFD Companies being committed to the scene, mutual aid units from the GNVFD, PWFD, NHPFD, GCPFD and Plandome FD covered M-LFD stations during the fire. The Nassau County Fire Marshals office along with LIPA and Keyspan were called to the scene. All M-LFD units were released at approximately 13:00 hours.
