Working House Fire - Zone 4
M-LFD Companies 4, 3, 5, 1 & Ambulance Unit

On Thursday, September 22nd, 2005, just after the monthly M-LFD Department Training exercises had completed for the evening, Companies 3 and 4 were toned out to a residence in Zone 4 located in the Village of Russell Gardens.

Chief of Department 8704 was the first unit to respond and was advised by Great Neck Vigilant Operator #5 (Ex-8701) of a “Reported House Fire.” While enroute, the dispatcher advised C8704 that NCPD was on the scene stating they had fire showing. Upon his arrival, C8704 transmitted a Signal 10 for a working house fire, and requested a re-tone of the initial alarm, with the addition of Company 5, the Ambulance Unit and Company 1 for a F.A.S.T. Team.

Engines 8746 and 8735 were the first apparatus to respond and were instructed by C8704 to hook-up to hydrants and lay in. Ladder 8743 was on the scene shortly there after and was setup in the front of the residence to gain access to the roof for ventilation.

Heavy fire was auto exposing from the attic and was visible on the number two side of the residence upon arrival. Both engines stretched 1” ¾ hose lines to the attic of the residence, while the crews from L8743 and TL8744 ventilated the roof and laddered the residence. The crews of 8746 and 8735 utilized one hose line to face a heavy fire load in the attic and were able to make a quick stop.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal was called to the scene due to the unknown nature of the fire. Deputy Chiefs 8702, 8705 and 8703 were also on the scene. All units were up shortly after 0100 hours.
