Working Structure Fire - Zone 5
M-LFD Companies 5, 4, 1 & Ambulance Unit

On the night of Sunday, September 25th, 2005, at around 2100 hours, M-LFD Company #5 was toned out for a reported car fire in the Gulf Station on New Hyde Park Road, between Union Turnpike and Marcus Avenue. Deputy Chiefs Dugger (8703) and Uttaro (8705) were the first two units to respond, followed shortly thereafter by Chief of Department Strickland (8704). All three Chiefs were advised by the dispatcher that they had a working car fire in the gas station located near the pumps.

Upon arrival, DC8703 updated dispatch stating that he had a rental truck that had lost control and crashed through a gas fueling pump and was fully-involved with fire. Engine 8758 was the first unit to respond out of Company #5, and upon their arrival C8704 requested that Company #4 be toned out for additional manpower.

While transmitting the alarm for Company #4, C8704 also made the request that a Signal 10 be transmitted due to the fact that the truck was burning underneath the canopy for the gas station, and the fire had communicated to that location during operations. Company #1 was toned out for a F.A.S.T. Team and the Ambulance Unit was also requested. The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Hazmat Unit was also requested by C8704.

Tower Ladder 8744 was the first unit to respond out of Company #4, followed shortly by Engine 8746. Upon arrival, TL8744 was setup on the exposure two side of the canopy and a crew from Company #4 was sent to the roof via the bucket to check for extension and to extinguish and overhaul any burning debris with a hose line off of E8746, while E8758 worked on any remaining fire near the truck. All units were up from the scene after roughly 45 minutes.
