On Thursday,
August 24th, 2006 at around 1345 hours, M-LFD Companies
1 and 2 were dispatched to a reported house fire at 117
Manhasset Avenue in Zone 1. Engine 8712 was the first
unit to respond and was followed by Quint 8728, Deputy
Chief Dillon (DC8701) and Engine 8725.
Upon E8712's arrival, heavy smoke was seen self-venting
from the attic and eves of the residence. The crew entered
the house to find the attic partially involved with fire.
A Signal 10 for a working house fire was transmitted,
with an initial request for an additional ladder from
Company #4 and an additional engine from Company #3. The
M-LFD Ambulance Unit was also requested to respond to
the scene, while the Port Washington FD provided a F.A.S.T.
Team (Rescue 8522) to the scene. M-LFD Company #5 was
also placed on stand-by in their quarters.
The crew of E8712 stretched a 1” ¾ hand
line in to the attic, while the crews of Q8728 and L8743
went to work ventilating the roof. E8735 stretched an
additional 1” ¾ hand line and helped to extinguish
the fire.
During the length of the fire, multiple neighboring Departments
were placed on stand-by at different M-LFD firehouses.
