| On Friday, March
30th, 2007 at roughly 2045 hours, M-LFD Companies 4 and
5 were toned out to 1979 Marcus Avenue. Deputy Chiefs Uttaro
(8705), Dugger (8703) and Dillon (8701) were the first units
to respond to the alarm and were immediately advised by
the Great Neck Vigilant Dispatcher that an automatic alarm
was being received for the building, as well as multiple
calls stating that the building was on fire. While enroute,
the Chiefs were notified by dispatch that FireCom was receiving calls
for people trapped inside the suite and on a balcony.
Tower
Ladder 8744, Engine 8758 and Engine 8740 all responded
within minutes of receiving the alarm. Upon the arrival
of the Deputy Chiefs, a Signal 10 was transmitted for
a working building fire. The Chiefs advised dispatch that
they had heavy fire auto-exposing from the front of the
building. At that time, Company #3 and the Ambulance Unit
were toned out for additional manpower to the scene, as
well as a F.A.S.T. Team from the New Hyde Park Fire Department.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal was also requested to the
scene for an immediate response. M-LFD Companies 1 and 2
would also later respond to the scene for additional manpower
and resources.
The crew of TL8744, under the command of Captain 4, located
the fire and contained it while a 2 ½” hand line was stretched
off of E8758 through a second floor window. The fire was quickly
knocked down by the crews of TL8744 and E8758. The fire was contained to
one suite and a large patio area on the north side of
the building. Units found that there were no trapped occupants in the building.
After the fire was extinguished, crews overhauled the
areas affected and all units were placed on a Signal 12
by DC8705. All units were released from the scene within
an hour and a half.
Multiple departments provided stand-by units in the M-LFD
firehouses including Garden City Park, Port Washington,
Great Neck Vigilant and Great Neck Alert Fire Companies. |
