Working House Fire
M-LFD Companies 3, 2, 4, 1 & Ambulance Unit
Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company F.A.S.T.

On Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 at roughly 1600 hours, M-LFD Companies 2 and 3 were toned out to 110 Udall Drive off Northern Boulevard for a house fire.  Deputy Chief Pitzer (8704) was the first unit to respond to the alarm, and was advised of multiple calls for a reported house fire at that location with NCPD on scene confirming a fire.

Deputy Chief Pitzer transmitted “smoke showing” upon his arrival for heavy arching coming from the electrical meter on the house and for smoke pushing out of the first floor of the residence.  After sizing-up the scene, DC8704 transmitted a Signal 10 for a working house fire, and requested a forthwith response for LIPA and a LIPA Supervisor due to the fire being caused by the electrical meter arching.

Quint 8728 was the first piece of apparatus on the road, followed shortly thereafter by Tower Ladders 8724 and 8744.  The fire was primarily contained to the basement and first floor of the residence using three hand lines, which were operated by the crews of Q8728 and E8735.  There was also very minor extension to the second floor.  Quint 8728 and Tower Ladder 8744 were both setup for overhauling purposes on the exterior of the residence.

Deputy Chief Uttaro (8705), Engines 8735, 8711, 8725 and Ambulance 8767 also responded on the transmission of the working fire.  Deputy Chief Uttaro assumed “Manhasset Command” upon his arrival. The Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company provided a F.A.S.T. with Ladder 8312.  The Port Washington Fire Department provided one engine and an ambulance, while the Williston Park Fire Department provided a tower ladder to stand-by during the fire.

All M-LFD units were released from the scene within two hours of operating.
