On Thursday, May 7th, 2009 at 2335 hours, M-LFD Companies 4 and 5 were toned out to 84 Meadow Woods Road in the Village of Lake Success. Chief of Department Uttaro (8705) and Deputy Chief Pitzer (8704) were the first units to respond to the alarm, and were advised by GNVFC Operator 8 that they were responding to “smoke in the house” called in by Lake Success PD.
While en-route, dispatch informed both Chiefs that LSPD Officers were now reporting a house fire at the address. Deputy Chief Pitzer (8704) arrived first on the scene and transmitted “smoke showing”, and when Chief Uttaro arrived a few seconds later he transmitted a Signal 10 for a working house fire.
Engine 8711-acting-8740 was the first piece of apparatus on the road and arrived on the scene just after Chiefs Uttaro and Pitzer. The crew quickly stretched a 1” ¾ hose line to the front door, forced entry to the house, and once the line was charged, made an aggressive push into what was a great fire load. A second 1” ¾ hose line was immediately stretched and operated by the crew from Engine 8758 and the fire was knocked down. While the hose lines were operating, the crews from Ladders 8743, 8744, and Quint 8728 performed primary and secondary searches throughout the house, which were all negative, and also ventilated.
Manhasset Command placed the scene under control at 0039 hours, and the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office was notified for an immediate investigation. Units from M-LFD Company #4 remained on scene with the Fire Marshals until roughly 0300 hours. All five M-LFD Chiefs were on the scene, as well as Engines 8711-acting-8740, 8758, 8756, 8735, Ladders 8743 and 8744, Quint 8728, Heavy Rescue 8730, Rescue 8757, Ambulances 8767 and 8769, and EMS Fly Car 8799. The Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company responded as the F.A.S.T. with Ladder 8312. |
